Pakistan

Some 73 million Pakistanis — around 41% of the population — live below the poverty line.

For millions of households, a single flood, illness or failed harvest is enough to erase a lifetime of progress.

Pakistan is home to more than 240 million people, and its rural districts carry the heaviest burden of poverty. In provinces such as Sindh and Balochistan, families depend on seasonal agricultural work that pays little and disappears entirely when crops fail. Rising food prices have pushed staples like flour, cooking oil and lentils beyond the reach of daily wage earners.

Health services remain thinly spread. Rural clinics are often hours away, understaffed and short of medicine, so preventable conditions become life-threatening. Malnutrition among young children remains among the highest in the region, and mothers frequently give birth without access to trained care.

Education tells a similar story. Millions of children — girls in particular — are out of school because of cost, distance or the need to work. Catastrophic flooding in recent years destroyed thousands of classrooms and displaced entire communities, deepening a crisis that was already generations in the making.

Recovery in Pakistan is slow and uneven. Communities that lost homes and livestock to flooding are still rebuilding, often without insurance, savings or reliable government support. Each new season of extreme heat or heavy rain risks undoing the progress families have fought hard to make.

Our teams work year-round alongside local partners — providing food, clean water, medical care, orphan support and long-term livelihood projects. Sustained giving is what allows that work to continue between the headlines, when the need remains but the attention has moved on.
