United Kingdom

More than one in five people in the UK are living in poverty — including over two million pensioners.

Hardship at home is quieter than a headline emergency, but for the households living it the pressure is constant.

Rising food and energy costs have pushed many households into impossible choices between heating and eating. Food bank use has climbed year on year, and a growing share of the people collecting parcels are in work but still unable to cover the essentials.

Older people are among the hardest hit. Fixed incomes stretch thinner every winter, mobility problems make shopping difficult, and many live alone with little day-to-day contact. Loneliness is not simply uncomfortable — it measurably worsens physical and mental health.

Our UK programme works through masjids, community centres and volunteer teams to deliver food parcels, hot meals, winter fuel support and regular welfare visits, so support reaches people quietly and without embarrassment.

Need in the UK is seasonal in intensity but never absent. Winter brings the sharpest spike in demand, yet the families and pensioners we support are struggling through the rest of the year too.

Regular giving is what lets us keep rounds running week after week — the same volunteer at the same door, checking in on someone who might otherwise see nobody.
