What's Happening

Families displaced by flooding and conflict are living in shelters that were only ever meant to last a few weeks. Canvas has torn, plastic sheeting has perished in the sun, and floors flood the moment it rains.

Others have returned to damaged homes with collapsed roofs and open walls, choosing a broken house over a camp because it is theirs.

Without weatherproofing before the first snow, whole households move into a single room, or move again — to somewhere with even less support.

Our Response

Our shelter kits contain heavy-duty tarpaulin, timber, fixings, insulation sheeting and a raised sleeping platform to lift bedding off wet ground. Teams install them alongside the family rather than dropping supplies and leaving.

Where a home is repairable, we prioritise roof and window repairs, which cost far less than a new shelter and let a family stay in their own house through the winter.
