Winter Appeal
A hot meal in winter is warmth from the inside out — and for many of the people we serve, it is the only cooked food they will eat that day.

Community kitchens
In winter, the cost of cooking fuel rises just as casual work disappears. Families who manage the rest of the year on daily wages find themselves choosing between heating and eating.
Elderly people living alone are hit hardest. Many are physically unable to queue for a food distribution or to cook for themselves, and go days on bread and tea.
Cold, poor nutrition and damp housing compound one another — the same households that go hungry are the ones filling clinic waiting rooms by February.

We run community kitchens through the coldest months, cooking simple, filling meals — rice, lentils, vegetables and meat twice a week — from locally bought ingredients.
Meals are served at the kitchen and delivered to housebound elderly people and disabled residents by volunteers who also check on their heating, health and general welfare.
“He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbour goes hungry.”
Kitchens run daily from December to March. Donations are used in the month they are received wherever kitchens are already open.

Thick thermal blankets distributed to families sleeping in tents and unheated homes. One donation keeps a whole family warm through the season.

Weatherproofing, heating fuel, warm clothing and whatever else our teams report as most urgent once the cold sets in.
Choose a project that matches your intention — Zakat, Sadaqah or Lillah — and give where it is needed most.
