Ramadan Appeal

Fidyah

Fidyah is the compensation due from those who cannot fast and cannot make the days up. We turn every payment into food for a family who needs it.

Who It Applies To

Fidyah is due from those who are unable to fast and unable to make the fast up later — the chronically ill, the frail and the elderly — at the cost of feeding one person for each missed day.

It is not a penalty. It is a way of keeping the spirit of the fast alive by feeding someone who would otherwise go without.

Payments can be made at any point during Ramadan, and we distribute continuously through the month.

Our Response

We convert every Fidyah payment into staple food — flour, rice, lentils, oil and dates — rather than cash, and distribute it through the month of Ramadan.

Recipient lists are prepared with local imams and checked by our staff, prioritising widows, orphan households and families with no earning member. Every parcel is signed for.

“And upon those who are able to fast, but with hardship, is a ransom of feeding a poor person.”
