Who It Applies To

Zakatul Fitr is obligatory on every Muslim who has food in excess of their needs on the night before Eid — including on behalf of dependants such as children and elderly relatives in the household.

It must be given before the Eid prayer. Paid after the prayer, it counts as ordinary charity rather than the obligation itself, which is why we close this appeal on the morning of Eid.

The purpose is twofold: to purify the fasting person from shortcomings during Ramadan, and to ensure that no family is left without food on the day of celebration.

Our Response

We convert your Zakatul Fitr into staple food — flour, rice, lentils, oil and dates — and distribute it in the final days of Ramadan so families receive it in time to prepare for Eid.

Distribution lists are drawn up with local imams and community leaders, prioritising widows, orphan households and families with no earning member. Every parcel is signed for on receipt.

“The Messenger of Allah enjoined Zakat-ul-Fitr as a purification for the fasting person and as food for the poor.”
