Qurbani

Qurbani in Uganda

In Uganda's refugee-hosting districts, a Qurbani share is a rare meal of fresh meat shared between neighbours.

Where Your Qurbani Goes

Uganda hosts one of the largest refugee populations in Africa, and the villages absorbing them are themselves among the poorest in the country.

Households live on maize, cassava and beans. Meat is a celebration food that most families simply cannot buy.

Distributing Qurbani here also puts money into local livestock markets, supporting the smallholder farmers we buy from.

How We Deliver It

We buy healthy animals from local farmers, have them inspected, and slaughter under Shariah supervision on the days of Eid — never frozen stock shipped from elsewhere.

Meat is distributed the same day through village committees, reaching refugee-hosting households, widows, orphans and elderly residents first.

“The best of people are those most beneficial to people.”
